Women’s World Football Show – Episode 95 welcomes USWNT icon Julie Foudy and German sports writer Jana Lange.

As one of the more influential voices in women’s soccer, Julie Foudy continues to make an impact in the lives of young people everywhere. Women’s World Football Show welcomes the former captain of the USWNT to chat about a few of her upcoming projects, including her new book, Choose to Matter. In this engaging book, Julie encourages young women to find the leader that exists in all of them, whatever their personality or vocal chord strength might be.

Along with her book, Julie is releasing a video series through ESPN W titled #SockTalk, where she takes the audience along on the interviews she conducted for the book. Her interviews are always insightful, funny and inspiring. As a two-time Olympic Gold Medalist, two-time Women’s World Cup champion and now respected sports broadcaster at ESPN, Julie has become an advocate for teaching young girls to “step out of their comfort zone and become comfortable with the uncomfortable.” In this exclusive WWFShow interview, Julie shares why it’s important to empower young people to do and be more than they think they can be.

Julie also shares her thoughts on the current state of women’s soccer in the USA, what she thinks about USA players leaving the NWSL to play overseas, why she thinks Hope Solo is not a good fit for the future USWNT, and so much more! Line Johansen
Keeping a long the ‘goalkeeer’ theme, Danish footballer Line Johansen sits down with Adam to share her journey to the Denmark Women’s National Team. It was Denmark’s semi-final appearance in the 2013 Euros that inspired a generation of young girls to play football in Denmark. After suffering an injury, that took her out of the game for a few months, Line is ready to come back and set to start in the upcoming Cyprus Cup. What makes a great goalkeeper and why is focus and determination key to being successful at the position? Line brings us into the net for an up close, personal view. In January, while at camp with the USWNT U23 squad in Los Angeles, Christina Gibbons attended the 2017 NWSL College Draft. The former Duke University defender/midfield stops by to chat about her draft experience, life after graduation, and the proposition of playing beside players like Becky Sauerbrunn, Shea Groom and Amy Rodriguez. There’s a change in the air in women’s soccer – can you feel it? We can! And on this week’s episode of Women’s World Football Show, we travel the globe to take a look at these changes first hand. First up, we head to Canada to talk with one of the game’s most popular players – Rhian Wilkinson.

An intricate member of the Canada Women’s National Team since 2003, Rhian made her debut at 20 years old after a stellar career at University of Tennessee. The winner of 2 Olympic bronze medals, Rhian has contributed to the success of the Canada team over the years with her leadership and tactical skills. Now at 34 years old, the Quebec native has decided to hang up her boots. We caught up with Rhian just before she played her last match against Mexico on February 4, 2017.

In this candid conversation, Rhian talks about why she decided that now is the time to retire from professional soccer, shares some of her favorite memories and reflects on the influence of Coach John Herdman. Plus, is coaching on her own horizon? We’ll see.. And true to form, Rhian is brutally honest about the state of the women’s game, while calling for more women to get involved in coaching and why many of her Canadian teammates deserve to be recognized as great players, role models and influencers in the sport.

Emily Roberts
The FAWSL 2 Spring Series is underway and one of the teams you’ll want to keep a close eye on are the Durham Wildcats! Adam sits down with Durham’s powerful winger Emily Roberts to chat about the upcoming season, as well as the changes she’s seen at Durham and in the league over the past few years. As a former player for Doncaster, Emily knows a thing or two about winning the league and she brings that experience to Durham. Emily tells us all about the Wildcats preparations for 2017, as well as looks back at her career with her former clubs Doncaster, Notts County and Lincoln. (41:30)

In this spirited interview, the 17-year old tells us all about her remarkable season, playing along side the likes of Caitlin Foord and Kyah Simon and the dream experience of representing Australia at the youth level. Jaclyn Poucel
Adam catches up with former University of Pittsburgh standout Jaclyn Poucel. After her senior season, Jaclyn found herself on the list for eligible players for the 2015 NWSL college draft. But with a deep crop of draftees, the tall center-back went undrafted. But that didn’t diminish her dreams of playing professional soccer !

In this spirited interview, the 5-foot-9 defender shares with us her journey to Finland and Iceland, as well as her experience playing for the Boston Breakers Reserves. Learning the love of the game from her mom, Jaclyn takes us through her childhood, her experiences as a young recruit, and her thoughts on the differing aspects of the women’s game here and abroad. Episode 90: 2017 NWSL Draft Special

Women’s World Football Show, Episode 90 features draft-day interviews with Rose Lavelle, Morgan Andrews, Sammy Jo Prudhomme, Kayla Mills, Maddie Bauer, Laura Harvey, Tom Sermanni, and Randy Waldrum. Plus, an exclusive interview with Scotland National Team striker Fiona Brown.

The NWSL College Draft recently took place in Los Angeles, California and Women’s World Football Show was there to get perspectives from the players and coaches. From a list of over 200 of the world’s top collegiate players, only 40 were selected, so the competition was fierce but spirits were high!

The Boston Breakers had a big day at the 2017 NWSL College Draft, landing four of the first nine picks, including the No. 1 overall selection, midfielder Rose Lavelle. We hear from Rose, plus her new teammates USC’s Morgan Andrews and Sammy Jo Prudhomme.

Coach Christy Holly and Sky Blue FC came up big as well picking up a pair of defenders from the 2016 NCAA College Cup champions USC, Kayla Mills and Mandy Freeman. Listen in as Kayla chats about how she prepped for this big moment.

Another team that came up big in the draft was Laura Harvey and Seattle Reign FC. We hear from the English gaffer herself who shares her strategy in picking all west-coast natives, why this year’s draft was different for her than previous years, and her thoughts on Kelly Smith’s recent retirement. We also hear from her newest defender Stanford’s Maddie Bauer.

Two teams looking for answers in 2017 are the Houston Dash and Orlando Pride. We hear from coaches Randy Waldrum and Tom Sermanni discuss their draft picks and the upcoming season. Plus, a few highlights from NWSL Commissioner Jeff Plush.

Fiona Brown
It’s not all about the draft! In this episode we spotlight one of the game’s up-and-coming stars – Scottish National Team striker Fiona Brown. Over the recent Christmas break, Fiona announced that after winning everything there is to win in Scotland with Glasgow City, she was heading to play football in Sweden with Eskilstuna United. In this exclusive interview Fiona chats with Adam about the move and her times at Glasgow. We also look at the national team as Scotland head to Euro 2017 and the “small” matter of a match with England!

As a shy kid growing up in a small Caribbean island, Karina grew to be one of the most popular goalkeepers in the women’s game, a champion for self-expression and a voice for underdogs everywhere. Karina discovered soccer at the ripe old age of 11, beginning a journey into self-discovery which made her known throughout the world for a personality as colorful as the mohawks she rocks.

With 5 World Cups and 2 Olympic games under her belt, the Olympic bronze medalist is the longest serving women’s soccer player in Canadian history. In this entertaining interview, KK takes us back to her childhood, shares her experiences as an elite athlete and brings us up to date on her latest projects. One in particular is iS4, a developmental soccer camp and motivational program founded by Karina and former Canada teammates Diana Matheson, Christine Sinclair and Rhian Wilkinson.

Women’s World Football Show, Episode 85 features exclusive interviews with USWNT goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher; Australia defender Angela Beard; Aussie sports writer Cheryl Downes.

The competition is fierce in the women’s game, so when opportunities are presented, the hungry ones go full force. On this episode, Women’s World Football Show features a couple of players who are not throwing away their shot!

First up is U.S. Women’s National Team goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher. The New England native knows what it’s like to live and play outside of her comfort zone and she’s made a career out of it. In this rare interview, Alyssa gives us insight into her experiences moving away from home playing for Turbine Potsdam in Germany and then later leaving the comfy confines of her hometown for the bustling city of Chicago.

Always a consistent player on the youth squads, at Penn State and at the club level, Alyssa challenged herself to change her mindset when she hit the national team as a backup to Hope Solo. Now, she’s battling for the number one spot and she’s giving it all she’s got. Alyssa shares with us how her past experiences have shaped who she is today, what’s she’s done to raise her game to another level and more.

Angela Beard
Representing Australia on the U-17 and U-20 squads, Angie Beard is one of the more dynamic defenders in the women’s game. Currently with Brisbane Roar in the W-League, the 19-year old was a nominee for the 2015/16 W-League Young Footballer of the Year award. Angie’s defensive craftiness led to her being awarded Brisbane Roar’s Player of the Year for 2015/16.

A product of the Queensland Academy of Sport, Angie is a fierce competitor who gleefully tackles every obstacle that comes her way. One example – her recent injury that occurred soon after being called up to the full Australian squad. Angie shares with us how she overcame disappointment with determination. Now she is back and ready to don the orange for Brisbane and the gold for Australia.
