Episode 102 of Women’s World Football Show features interviews with Everton Ladies and Northern Ireland striker Simone Magill, Portland Thorns FC defender Kendall Johnson and Russian midfielder Katya Gokhman.

In our featured interview, Adam sits down with Simone Magill to chat about Everton Ladies FC promotion to the FAWSL 1, the future of Northern Ireland WNT and the path she paved for herself to get to the top. The young striker made her senior international debut at age 15, claiming Northern Ireland Women’s Premier League Player of the Year in 2010/2012 and Top Goal Scorer 2011/2012. At 18, Simone made the move to Everton in 2013 and now is one of the veterans on the squad, riding the wave from relegation to promotion and beyond.

Simone takes us through her recent world record breaking goal, scoring the fastest-ever international goal, breaking Alex Morgan’s record. During the 2016 European Qualifying match against Georgia, the 11-second goal beat the previous 12 second goal scored by Morgan. What was that experience like and what does that milestone mean? However, after a hard tackle while at Western Sydney Wanderers in the W-League, Kendall suffered a near career-ending concussion, that put her on a path not of her choosing. The result is a long road to recovery and consequential self-discovery leading to a website, blog and podcast, where she brings her experiences to light, shares stories from other athletes and helps others along the way. Katya Gokhman
Katya Gokhman is a great example of someone who continues to carve her own path no matter which road she finds herself on. The Russian midfielder moved to Atlanta Georgia with her family at the tender age of two, discovering soccer a few years later. Adam sits down with Katya to discuss her journey to play for Florida State and then back to her native country of Russia. This uncommon path led Katya from Serbia to Iceland and it hasn’t ended yet! The 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup Best Young Player Award recipient shares with us her changing role in Canada and how she’s preparing to be more of a leader on the team. Aimee Phillips
New Zealand are a side that is a phase of transition and very much looking forward to the next World Cup. One of the up and coming players for the Football Ferns is striker Aimee Phillips. Recently, Aimee made the decision to put her teaching career on hold to train full time with the national team.

In this one-on-on interview, Aimee  shares with us her life-changing decision and the factors that went into her choice. The 26-year old also tells us about making her debut in Brazil and her experience playing in the Cyprus Cup. Episode 100: Sophie Schmidt, Kate Gill

Episode 100 of Women’s World Football Show features exclusive interviews with Canada WNT midfielder Sophie Schmidt; Former Australia Women’s National Team striker Kate Gill; and sports journalists Jana Lange (Germany) and Sandra Prusina (Canada).

This milestone episode features interviews with a few of women’s soccer’s most influential people. First up is 2-time Olympic bronze medalist Sophie Schmidt. For the past two years, Sophie has been playing football for German club FFC Frankfurt in the Frauen-Bundesliga. The affable Winnipeg native took time to chat with Adam before traveling from Germany to Canada for upcoming friendlies for the national team.

As a longtime supporter of  Women’s World Football Show, Sophie has the distinction of being the only 3-time guest on the show (and she still likes us!!). Sophie chats about her time in Germany, some of the challenges she’s faced and then overcame. She also shares some of her favorite memories, the importance of Coach John Herdman, and her future in the game. Kate Gill
Of course we couldn’t celebrate our 100th episode without Matilda icon Kate Gill (her second appearance on the show!) Always the player’s advocate, Kate is still making an impact as a Player Relations Executive for the PFA, Australia’s football player’s union. The W-League 2-time Golden Boot winner (remember all those great Perth Glory days?!!), took time out of her busy traveling schedule to talk about her work in the PFA and what it means for women footballers throughout the world.

Still holding the record for all-time leading goal scorer for the Australian team, the former captain reveals what drives her to fight for player’s rights, why she will always be a Proud Matilda, and what she’s learned about herself since 2015. Jessica Fishlock stepped out of her comfort zone at the age of 19, leaving her Cardiff City home to conquer the world. And she’s never looked back. As the only Welsh player male or female with 100 caps for the Wales National Team, Jess has set the standard for success in women’s football and beyond. In 2017 Jess played for & coached Melbourne City FC to its second consecutive W-League win. Soon after she was on her way to the USA to play her fifth season with Seattle Reign FC in the NWSL (one of six leagues she’s represented in her decade-long career).

In this interview Jess takes us through her soccer journey, shares what she’s learned along the way and what it takes to be a professional footballer. The Reign co-captain tells us what she’s learned as a coach and player from Laura Harvey and how their relationship isn’t always so smooth, the team’s determination to finally get what’s there’s and more. Keeping on the Wales tales… Yeovil Town Ladies are making their debut in FAWSL 1 this year – So, who better to get on the show than dangerous striker Nadia Lawrence! The Welsh international has been a huge part of the Yeovil success story and shares her experiences with the newly promoted team. What does the promotion mean to the team as a whole? How does WSL 1 compare with WSL 2? And what’s it like to be a role model in the fan-friendly town? Nadia gives us all the answers and more!

Nadia has also become an intricate member of the Wales Women’s National Team, and most recently call up to the team for upcoming friendlies ahead of the Women’s World cup qualifiers. Adrianna Franch
Speaking of which… The Rose City team, Portland Thorns FC have developed a reputation for carrying the best goalkeepers in the NWSL and Adrianna Franch is continuing that legacy. The first-ever goalkeeper to be drafted into the NWSL in 2013, Adrianna understands what it takes to be successful and the work-ethic involved. The Kansas native shares what she learned from playing in Norway and also what she’s taking away from Thorns goalkeeping coach Nadine Angerer (“The best goalkeeper to ever play”).

Adrianna also gives us a first-hand account of what it’s like to play at Providence Park in front of those incredible fans and how the rowdy atmosphere isn’t such an advantage as some would think. Ashlyn Harris
USA Women’s National Team goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris joins Women’s World Football Show for an intimate conversation on life, empowerment and improvement. From her stellar youth career to her inspiring success at UNC, and all the way to the No. 1 national team in the world, Ashlyn’s story is one of self-discovery, individuality and perseverance. The 2016 CONCACAF Goalkeeper of the Year recipient shares insights on the SheBelieves Cup, her recent trip to Liberia and her involvement with the organization To Write Love on Her Arms.


Never one to give the “comfortable” answers, Ashlyn gives insight into why she thinks she resonates with young fans, her rare, yet close bond with fellow USWNT goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher and living in the shadow of Hope Solo. Ashlyn also gives us a glimpse into her upcoming season with the Orlando Pride and why she thinks everyone should join in the excitement. An advocate for the women’s game and for young girls all over the world, Ashlyn Harris is a role model who is aware of the importance of her voice and the platform she has been given to use it to help impact lives. Line Johansen
Keeping a long the ‘goalkeeer’ theme, Danish footballer Line Johansen sits down with Adam to share her journey to the Denmark Women’s National Team. It was Denmark’s semi-final appearance in the 2013 Euros that inspired a generation of young girls to play football in Denmark. After suffering an injury, that took her out of the game for a few months, Line is ready to come back and set to start in the upcoming Cyprus Cup. What makes a great goalkeeper and why is focus and determination key to being successful at the position? Line brings us into the net for an up close, personal view. Christina Gibbons
In January, while at camp with the USWNT U23 squad in Los Angeles, Christina Gibbons attended the 2017 NWSL College Draft. Gibby didn’t have to wait long to hear her name called, when she was selected 5th overall by 2-time NWSL champions FC Kansas City. The former Duke University defender/midfield stops by to chat about her draft experience, life after graduation, and the proposition of playing beside players like Becky Sauerbrunn, Shea Groom and Amy Rodriguez.
