Episode 154: Jordan DiBiasi, Beattie Goad, Christen Press

Women’s World Football Show, Episode 154 features exclusive interviews with Washington Spirit Midfielder Jordan DiBiasi; Stanford University Midfielder Beattie Goad; and Soundbites from USWNT Strikers Christen Press and Rose Lavelle.

Only the top high school athletes make it to the level of playing women’s college soccer. During the 2016-2017 school year, there were about 38,873 women playing collegiate soccer and of these college players, 1,155 were international recruits.

How has playing collegiate soccer helped prepare players for the professional ranks, and more than that, how does it bring out the best in these young women and shape their futures as world changers? In this episode, we talk with one of the brightest young stars in the NWSL – in her first pro season after a stellar college career at Stanford, Washington Spirit midfielder Jordan Dibiasi.

Also, Stanford defender from Australia, Beattie Goad. We’ll also hear from one of the most famous Stanford players of all time – Christen Press; and a cameo by Washington Spirit forward Rose Lavelle.

Washington Spirit rookie midfielder Jordan DiBiasi stops by to talk about her stellar career at Stanford, how playing college soccer helped prepare her for the professional ranks, her seamless transition from college to pros, and more.

Jordan shares how she’s handled being drafted 3rd overall by the Washington Spirit in the 2019 NWSL College Draft and the challenges that come with that – all with a positive attitude! Jordan DiBiasi is part of the young crop of USWNT U-23 players you need to watch and this interview will show you why! (9’)

Beattie Goad

All the way from Melbourne, Australia, Beattie Goad is making a name for herself as a standout footballer at Stanford University. A combination of brains and brawn, Beattie has been working hard at expanding her horizons at Stanford, forging friendships and interests away from just school and soccer.

A two-time W-League champion and NCAA Women’s National Champion, Beattie give us insight on what it takes to balance playing football at a highest level while Majoring in Human Biology with a minor in medical anthropology. Women’s World Football Show, Episode 152 features an exclusive interviews with England striker Jodie Taylor; Editor of She Kicks Women’s Football Magazine Jen O’Neill; and USWNT Head Coach Jill Ellis.

The game is growing all over the world, but no place faster than in England. This is thanks in part to the success of the Lionesses of England, the Women’s Super League, Championship League, and media including TV broadcasts, websites, and magazines dedicated to women’s football. Jodie Taylor

To say Jodie Taylor is a well-traveled player is an understatement. Beginning her club career with Tranmere Rovers as a youth, Jodie ventured from her home at 18 to play college football at Oregon State University. It was a hard time leaving her urban home to a remote town in the USA, but it was the start of a unique road that would lead all the way to the National Team. Jodie generously takes on her football journey with honesty, humor, and foresight.

Jodie didn’t follow the conventional path we see in most players at this level. In fact, you could say Jodie Taylor paved her own path to become one of the top players in the world and a true role model for young people to follow. This interview breaks down the mystery that is Jodie Taylor! (10′)

Jill Ellis

Jill Ellis, who led the U.S. Women’s National Team to historic back-to-back FIFA Women’s World Cup titles in Canada (2015) and France (2019), will step down as head coach following the completion of the Victory Tour in early October, 2019. Keeping a long the ‘goalkeeer’ theme, Danish footballer Line Johansen sits down with Adam to share her journey to the Denmark Women’s National Team. It was Denmark’s semi-final appearance in the 2013 Euros that inspired a generation of young girls to play football in Denmark. After suffering an injury, that took her out of the game for a few months, Line is ready to come back and set to start in the upcoming Cyprus Cup. In January, while at camp with the USWNT U23 squad in Los Angeles, Christina Gibbons attended the 2017 NWSL College Draft. Karina discovered soccer at the ripe old age of 11, beginning a journey into self-discovery which made her known throughout the world for a personality as colorful as the mohawks she rocks.

With 5 World Cups and 2 Olympic games under her belt, the Olympic bronze medalist is the longest serving women’s soccer player in Canadian history. In this entertaining interview, KK takes us back to her childhood, shares her experiences as an elite athlete and brings us up to date on her latest projects. One in particular is iS4, a developmental soccer camp and motivational program founded by Karina and former Canada teammates Diana Matheson, Christine Sinclair and Rhian Wilkinson.

During Alexa’s tenure, SC Sand found success which included advancing to the DFB Pokal Finale, the German Championship, as well as defeating the defending European Champion, VFL Wolfsburg, for the first time in club history.

The former University of Texas goalkeeper also discusses her time playing for UMF Selfoss in Iceland and her USA national team experience, as a member of the junior U.S. National Teams. Straight from the professional ranks after wrapping up her playing days in Germany, Alexa gives us insight on what it’s like to transition from player to coach in a very short time and her goals for the future.

Women’s World Football Show welcomes back German sportswriter Jana Lange to discuss all things Germany! The Bundesliga is already five rounds in, so Jana and Adam discuss the surprising rise of Turbine Potsdam, the slow start of Bayern München, and everything in between.
