Women’s World Football Show, Episode 133, features a special 2018 CONCACAF report with sports Canadian broadcaster Sandra Prusina; Interviews with Florida State University midfielder Yujie Zhao; and Barcelona FA striker Krystyna Freda.

The 2018 Concacaf Women’s Championship has finished up and the tournament was just as predictable as it was surprising. As expected, both USA and Canada punched their ticket to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, placing first and second respectively in the tournament. The surprises were the early elimination of Mexico and Costa Rica. The other surprise was the third place final, which was a battle to the end between Jamaica and Panama. The match ended in Penalty Kicks, resulting in the Reggae Girlz of Jamaica qualifying for the World Cup for the first time in their history.

In this special Concacaf report, Patty and Adam break down group play, dissect the failures of Mexico and Costa Rica, and discuss the parity of the Concacaf nations. Then in a special report with Canadian sports broadcaster and journalist Sandra Prusina comes in to chat about the Concacaf Final. Krystyna Freda
Cypriot First Division is the top women’s football league in Cyprus and one of the longest-running leagues in women’s football (established in 1998). On this episode, Adam sits down with Golden Boot winner Krystyna Freda of 2018 league winners Barcelona FA, who play out of Germasogeia. As the top scorer in the league, Krystyna is making her mark in Cyprus and gearing up for a new season.

The New Jersey native shares her journey from being a Top Drawer collegiate player at Winthrop University in South Carolina to training in the NWSL, playing in Finland, and now a star in the Cypriot League. Yujie Zhao
While China failed to make it out of the group stage in the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, their standout midfielder Yujie Zhao learned a valuable lesson and made a name for herself on the national level. The exciting young star is now studying and playing soccer at Florida State University and is continuing her rise to the top in women’s football.

Yujie sits down with Patty to give us her thoughts on playing in the NCAA, how the experience is helping her get stronger, and how she’s been able to assimilate so quickly into the unique experience of American collegiate soccer. Growing up, Kristen was highly influenced by the USWNT and watched her idol Mia Hamm in the 1999 Women’s World Cup at Giants Stadium. There was no stopping the kid from New Jersey from there. Angela Beard
Representing Australia on the U-17 and U-20 squads, Angie Beard is one of the more dynamic defenders in the women’s game. Angie’s defensive craftiness led to her being awarded Brisbane Roar’s Player of the Year for 2015/16.

A product of the Queensland Academy of Sport, Angie is a fierce competitor who gleefully tackles every obstacle that comes her way. One example – her recent injury that occurred soon after being called up to the full Australian squad. Angie shares with us how she overcame disappointment with determination. A budding soccer star in college, Diana Redman found herself going down a path of self-destruction. Then, the Israel Women’s National Team came calling and the defender turned her life around. Diana has taken her soccer talents around the world, playing club soccer in Spain and most recently won the Aphrodite Women’s Cup 2016 with Israel. Not only making a name for herself on the pitch, Diana is changing lives off the pitch as well by counselling other athletes who have fallen down similar paths of substance addiction. Adam and Barry the Beaver barged into two FAWSL matches over the past few weeks. Game 1 was Doncaster vs. Chelsea, for the FAWSL’s first-week matchup. Women’s World Football Show is ushering in the next generation of women’s footballers and who better to spotlight than one of the rising stars in the game today, USA’s Lindsey Horan!

As a football prodigy growing up in Colorado, Lindsey was playing forward with the Colorado Rush as a a mere tween. By the time she graduated high school, Lindsey was already making a name for herself with Paris Saint-Germain FC in the French league. We talk to this powerful goal-scorer about some of her more “unconventional” life decisions and find out what it really takes to follow your own path when everyone else keeps pointing you in another direction.

An impact player in the USWNT junior squads since she was a kid, Lindsey’s fans have been chomping at the bit for her to make her grand arrival up to the senior squad and she’s doing it in grand fashion. Coming off spectacular showings in the USA Victory Tour, the young star is undaunted by the attention and laser-focused on what she needs to do to get to the next level as she eyes the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.

NWSL fans cannot wait to catch this talented footballer play for Portland Thorns FC in 2016, where she will meet up with her former PSG teammate Tobin Heath and new USWNT teammate Emily Sonnett. It’s a new-look Thorns team and Lindsey plans on bringing a big presence and an NWSL championship back to the Rose City.

USA vs. Republic of Ireland
The USWNT broke January camp with a victory over Ireland at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego. Patty, AJ, and The Cowgirl were on hand to get a few interviews and soundbites. We hear from FIFA Female Coach of the Year Jill Ellis as she talks about her young team, the road to the Olympics, and Ireland defender Megan Campbell’s wicked throw-in. Alex Morgan also weighs in on the team’s new kids, the Road to Rio (and also on Campbell’s throw-in). Also we hear from the newest and youngest player on the team, 17-year old Mallory Pugh, who scored in her very first cap (nice thing to do before having to go back to high school on Monday). What has she learned since coming up to the senior squad and which veteran has given her the ultimate advice? She tells us that and more!

Nigeria
Adam visits with Nigeria sports journalist Janine Anthony. In this in-depth look at women’s football in the African contentment, Janine updates us on the triumphs and challenges of the Nigerian national team and let’s us in on why the club system is so important to the growth of the Super Falcons. Also, Janine gives her thoughts on the other great African teams – Cameroon, South Africa, Guyana, and Ivory Coast.
