Women’s World Football Show, Episode 159 features exclusive interviews with Sassuolo FC center-back Grace Cutler; Australia WNT defender Alanna Kennedy; Scotland WNT defender Rachel Corsie; Washington Spirit goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe; and Nigeria U20 striker Charity Chetachukwu Reuben.

On this episode, we focus on the ‘other side’ of playing professional football – living and playing abroad.

Imagine having a job that requires you to pick up and relocate to another country at least twice a year… forcing you to live and work in a foreign country. Many times, it’s a country you’ve never been to before, far away from family and friends, and the comforts of home.

This has become very common in the women’s game and one we’ll explore in-depth with special guests American Grace Cutler who is currently playing in Italy; Nigerian Charity Rueben who just finished up playing club football in Katzakstan; and brief chats with American Aubrey Bledsoe who is playing in Australia; and Aussie Alanna Kennedy and Scotland’s Rachel Corsie, who just finished up their NWSL season in the USA.

Grace Cutler

After stellar careers in high school and college, Grace Cutler was drafted by the Houston Dash in the 2019 NWSL College Draft. From there, it’s been a rollercoaster ride of emotions and whirl wind of life lessons.

We chat with Grace about her past year and her current challenge of playing abroad in the Italy’s Serie A with Sassuolo FC. How is she adapting, what is she learning about the game and herself, and much more! (8’)

Only the top high school athletes make it to the level of playing women’s college soccer. During the 2016-2017 school year, there were about 38,873 women playing collegiate soccer and of these college players, 1,155 were international recruits.

To say Jodie Taylor is a well-traveled player is an understatement. It was a hard time leaving her urban home to a remote town in the USA, but it was the start of a unique road that would lead all the way to the National Team. Jodie generously takes on her football journey with honesty, humor, and foresight.

Jodie didn’t follow the conventional path we see in most players at this level. In fact, you could say Jodie Taylor paved her own path to become one of the top players in the world and a true role model for young people to follow. This interview breaks down the mystery that is Jodie Taylor! (10′)

Jill Ellis

Jill Ellis, who led the U.S. Women’s National Team to historic back-to-back FIFA Women’s World Cup titles in Canada (2015) and France (2019), will step down as head coach following the completion of the Victory Tour in early October, 2019. If you’ve followed the NWSL in just the slightest degree over the past 7 years, you know the name Jen Hoy. She’s been an intricate part of the league since its inception in 2013. After a stellar career at Princeton University, Jen was selected in the 4th Round of the inaugural 2013 NWSL College Draft by the Chicago Red Stars. Jen made an immediate impact in the league with her hard work, speed and flair for dramatic goals.

From the outside looking in, Jen Hoy’s career path seems conventional. However, in this candid interview, Jen shares her unlikely journey that resulted in a remarkable career in women’s professional soccer.
