Joanna Lohman has taken all the lessons she’s learned in her 16-year career and hundreds of stories from professional women soccer players and produced one of the most anticipated books of the year. Here to talk about Raising Tomorrow’s Champions, which she co-authored with Paul Tukey, Joanna share with us the process of compiling all the stories in this book, how it was inspired, and much more.

Despite never winning a championship of any kind, Joanna has redefined what it means to be a champion, from her days with the USWNT to becoming the first Washington Spirit player in the team’s history to ever have her jersey number retired. There’s a lot to learn from one of soccer’s most influential players and she’s here to share it all with us! (14′)

Women’s World Football Show, Episode 147 features an exclusive interview with U.S. Soccer Hall-of-Famer and sports legend Kristine Lilly; Sound-bites from members of the iconic 1999 World Cup winning team – Mia Hamm and Brandi Chastain; with USWNT forward Alex Morgan.

On July 10, 1999, women’s soccer powerhouses USA and China met at the Rose Bowl in California for the 1999 Women’s World Cup Final.

In front of a record 90,185 spectators, the largest crowd ever to attend a women’s sporting event, the USWNT celebrated their overtime win and created a legacy unmatched by no other team in the history of U.S. soccer.

The game ended in a 5-4 shootout, with an iconic winning goal by Brandi Chastain. However, the outcome could have been much different, if not for a brilliant defensive play by midfielder Kristine Lilly.

Women’s World Football Show celebrates the 20-year anniversary of that historic match an exclusive interview with Kristine Lilly; plus, special interviews with Brandi Chastain and Mia Hamm. Also, Alex Morgan shares her thoughts on the 99er’s, their influence on her and her USWNT teammates.

Kristine Lilly

Kristine Lilly played for the United States Women’s National Team for 23 years and is the most capped football player in the history of the sport (men’s or women’s) with 354 caps. She’s also the only player to play for U.S. Soccer in 4 different decades.

A staple in sports record books, Kristine is currently 4th in the world of all-time leading goal scorers behind Abby Wambach, Christine Sinclair, and Mia Hamm.

In this episode, Kristine Lilly shares her insights on her legendary career, the special bond she shares with her ’99 teammates and discusses her new book, Powerhouse: 13 Teamwork Tactics that Build Excellence and Unrivaled Success.

Today, everyone is talking about his Spirit team and with good reason. On the outside looking in, the German Women’s National Team looks to be in shambles. Recent shocking losses, the last-place showing at SheBelieves Cup and the sacking of manager Steffi Jones, made us want to take a closer look. German sportswriter Jana Lange joins us to bring some insight. Jana has spent time with the team, talking to players and doing some digging to bring us all the facts. Was Jones’ firing warranted? Will Germany qualify for the Women’s World Cup? And how do they dig themselves out of the hole and become the football juggernaut we’ve all known and loved to hate? Jana is bringing it. Women’s National Team midfielder brings us back to her days growing up in Virginia Beach and how she developed her love for the game.

Anyone who has gone through the trophy hall at University of Virginia knows the name of Angela Hucles. It took 15 years for someone to come along and break a few of her all-time scoring records. Angela’s journey into pro soccer began as a member of the first-ever Boston Breakers team and in fact, scored the first goal in the history of the Breakers (in 2001 a preseason exhibition match against Duke Blue Devils).

As a member of the USWNT, Angela was a player known for her ability to come off the bench in pivotal moments and strike an impactful pose. In 2008, Angela finished the Olympic campaign tied with the most goals of the tournament and a gold medal around her neck.

Her impact on the game didn’t end there. Angela has spent her post-soccer career giving a voice to those in desperate need of one. Angela is the current president of Women’s Sports Foundation; She has worked with the U.S. State Department and You Can Play organization to help empower LGBT youth through sport; and she founded Empowerment Through Sport Leadership Series, a unique conference featuring speakers and programs dedicated to teaching leadership and healthy living on and off the pitch.
